Ocean Woods Resort Kennebunkport Maine Wedding

Rebekah and Samuel were married on May 14th, 2017 at the Ocean Woods Resort in Kennebunk, Maine. While it was a rainy spring day, they made the most of it and enjoyed every moment celebrating their love with family and friends. The details were beautiful – colors of coral, white and green, lovely patterns and succulent favors, which made unique table centerpieces. The couple shared such an amazing first dancethat every eye in the room was turned to them. Their wedding guests soon joined in on the dancing and the rest of the evening was filled with laughter and memorable moments that Rebekah and Samuel will look back on for many years to come. I asked Rebakah to tell me a little more about their special day:

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

I always knew that succulents (the plants in the centerpieces, the cupcake toppers) were going to play a large role in our wedding. I also knew that I wanted it to be a spring wedding, although I didn't envision the spring showers that came along with it!

What was your color palette and your style vision?

The color palette we decided on was coral, white, and the green color found in the succulents. Our style vision was clean and romantic, while at the same time having ornate details such as the succulents or the pattern on the wedding dress.

What is your favorite moment of your wedding day?

Our favorite part was the dancing. Since we don't normally dance we got to see entirely different sides of people and it helped loosen the whole party up. The first dance went off without anything going wrong either, which was a big plus! My husband's grandmother told us afterward that our dance looked like something from the movie La La Land.

What song did you do your first dance to?

Time after Time by She and Him

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

The bouquet was simple, made from white roses and white oriental lilies. The dress was a part of the wedding that I felt extremely confident in, before I even saw it in person. When I went dress shopping, I tried on a few dresses before I tried on the one, everything was very beautiful but I didn't feel like I did when I put on my dress. I always loved big puffy dresses as a little girl, so it was a dream to be able to walk down the aisle in one. The favors were succulent plants which have covered my room for years, and have always brought me a lot of happiness it seemed almost crazy to not have them as our favors. Our cake and cupcakes were made by some wonderfully talented friends; they put so much effort in months in advance. The cupcakes were lemon with a raspberry filling and chocolate with a mousse inside. The cake was chocolate with mousse and vanilla frosting.

What advice would you give to couples who are currently planning their wedding?

Weddings come with a lot of details, some that don't matter in the long run. Focus your attention on the details that really matter to you both and you won't regret it. Also it’s easy to get caught up in all the stress, but on your special day try your hardest to just enjoy it because it goes by fast.

Granite Ridge Estate & Barn Wedding | Ann Marie & Andy

In early March of 2016, Ann Marie and Andy reached out to me looking for a wedding and engagement photographer for their October 1st wedding. Upon talking with them more, I was thrilled to learn more about their plans for a rustic chic Maine wedding at the Granite Ridge Estate and Barn in Norway, Maine.

In June, I photographed Ann Marie and Andy’s engagement session at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH. The park offers a beautiful open landscape, lovely ocean views and a rocky coastline. It was a wonderful evening for their session and the sunset was breathtaking.  The image collages below show a few of my favorites from their engagement session.

When October 1st, 2016 arrived, I took the two hour drive up to Norway, Maine to the Granite Ridge Estate and Barn. Let me tell you that it is well worth the drive. Granite Ridge is one of the most beautiful wedding venues that I’ve ever been fortunate enough to visit. Perched on its own 128 acre mountain, the Estate is the ultimate location for a rustic destination wedding. There is an elegant timber frame lodge combined with a 3500 square foot Maine barn that is unparalleled by spectacular mountain views.

Ann Marie and Andy got ready in the estate lodge, which is perched on its very own granite ridge. The massive fireplace was lit and the girls got ready in a room filled with windows that had the most amazing views. The ceremony took place on the venue’s outdoor ceremonial space. It is a large gravel clearing that was filled with benches for the wedding guests. The couple exchanged vows under a handmade birch arbor surrounded by their closest family and friends.

The reception took place inside the barn, which included spacious, natural wood floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and exquisite chandeliers. The tables were decorated with tree rounds, gold table numbers and teal colored napkins. The couple was announced into their reception where they went right into their first dance. Soon following were the parent dances, toasts and speeches and a buffet-style dinner. The remainder of the evening included a fun photo booth and lots of dancing!

The Colony Hotel Kennebunkport Maine Wedding | Sara and Jeremiah

I can’t believe it has been a year since I met these two in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for their engagement session! Talking with the bride, Sara over the months preceding the wedding, I just knew that her and Jeremiah’s wedding would be one to remember – and I was right! The couple had an unforgettable first look on the beach where we had spectacular views of both the venue and the Maine coast. Their wedding ceremony took place on the lawn of the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine and a reception followed in the hotel’s dining room. It was an evening filled with dancing and fun and truly was a night to remember.

I asked Sara to tell me a little more about their special day:

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

Jeremiah and I had envisioned a wedding on the ocean, lake or some body of water. We wanted to keep the wedding budget reasonable and tried some alternative venues such as a vineyard, farm, etc. The minute we walked into The Colony we knew that it was exactly what we had envisioned.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

To be honest, I didn't have a color palette. My sister in law, Ann, was very helpful throughout the wedding planning process and sent me some pins on Pinterest. I ended up going with plum and rustic orange (for the flowers) and the major theme of plum throughout the rest of the wedding for color.

What is your favorite moment of your wedding day?

The first look was our favorite moment of the wedding day. The entire year of planning amounted to us saying our vows to each other in front of our family. It was such a stressful day but when I saw him standing there by the ocean waiting for me it was like nothing else mattered.

What song did you do your first dance to?

Our first dance was to "Real Love" by the Beatles. We chose this song because we felt that the words described our relationship and was a perfect fit for our first dance.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Flowers - I showed the florist a picture I had found on Pinterest of the colors and type of bouquet that I was looking for. I wasn't that involved with the flowers other than that. I left it to the expert and they looked beautiful!

Gown - originally I was thinking of a a-line lace gown and had gone to two stores and did not find what I was looking for. The last store I went to with my mother and sister in law and sneakily my sister in law added a ball gown to the mix. I tried on the ball gown and immediately felt like a bride. That is the dress I ended up purchasing.

Cake - for the cake we went with a baker I had gone to high school with. I gave her a picture of what I was looking for and she decorated it with fresh flowers from my florist and it looked beautiful! There were 4 layers and they were cookie dough, white chocolate raspberry, funfetti, and triple chocolate.

Favors - my cousin owns a company called popcornography and was kind enough to provide us with two kinds to fill bell jars for our favors

What advice would you give to couples who are currently planning their wedding?

Our advice would be - try not to let all the little details stress you out. In the end you are marrying the man/woman of your dreams and that is really what it is all about.

Falmouth Country Club – Falmouth, Maine Wedding: Mackenzie and Stewart

Mackenzie and Stewart were married at the Falmouth Country Club in Falmouth, Maine on September 10th, 2016. The morning of the wedding, I arrived at Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland, Maine to photograph Mackenzie and the ladies getting ready. My second shooter, Tracey Mason was also on site with Stewart and the men in the wedding party. Mackenzie left for the first look in a limo with all of her bridesmaids and met up with Stewart and the guys at Falmouth Town Landing for their First Look and wedding party portraits. We then proceeded to Falmouth Country Club for a beautiful wedding ceremony outside and a lovely tented reception that lit up in blue and purple as the evening went on. The live band, Time Pilots was amazing and got everyone on the dance floor. It truly was an amazing wedding that I will certainly remember!

Words from the bride and groom…

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

We envisioned our wedding exactly how it turned out. It was a extremely special day, our family was comfortable and happy, our friends all had a great time, and as the bride and groom we couldn’t have pictured things going better.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

Our colors were blush, ivory, blue/navy. We had a classic and romantic style.

What is your favorite moment of your wedding day?

Our favorite moment was our first kiss! What a moment!! There are many great moments throughout the day, we had a perfect ceremony, great weather for photos, beautiful toasts, and our first dance was awesome!

What song did you do your first dance to?

Our first dance was My Best Friend by Queen, preformed by Time Pilots Band.

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Our cake was just as we had envisioned, it was classic and with the cascade of flowers down the side it was gorgeous.

Our favors were super fun, the grooms mother custom painted over 100 individual little terracotta pots where we then put a nice little succulent plant in each.

Our flowers were all made by the wedding party and other special people. Everything came together so nice.

The brides dress is hard to describe, but it was everything the bride was looking for and blew the grooms mind when we saw his bride!

What advice would you give to couples who are currently planning their wedding?

Our advice to other planning a wedding is... You are going to be stressed, it is a lot of work, there is no way around this. Work hard on the big stuff now, and enjoy it later, we noticed that the more planning we did early on the easier later on was and we were able to focus on the little details not scrambling to get big ticket items done.

One last little thing, planning takes way longer than you think. Allow yourself time.

Samoset Resort Rockport Maine Wedding: Katie and Don

Katie and Don had a small, intimate wedding at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine on August 21st, 2016. The Samoset Resort was a wedding venue I had been hoping to photograph, so I delighted when I found out that the couple would be married there. Even though the day was foggy, we made the best of the day. The Resort has a beautiful flower garden and a lovely green golf course. I’m so very honored to have been part of their special day.

From the bride…

When and where did your engagement take place? Please describe the proposal.

We got engaged at The Inn at Sunset Hill in New Hampshire on February 21, 2016. After coming back from Ice Castles, we went for a walk to the lookout over the White Mountains. After a few minutes, he got down on one knee and proposed!

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

Both of us had envisioned a small outdoor wedding either on the ocean or at a country club.

What was your color palette and your style vision?

We wanted a simple, elegant wedding. Our colors were purple and white.

What is your favorite moment of your wedding day?

My favorite moment was standing at the beginning of the aisle, waiting to walk down to my soon-to-be husband with my father escorting me, and all of my family and friends smiling.

What song did you do your first dance to?

From the Ground Up by Dan + Shay

Tell us about your flowers, your gown, your favors, your cake, etc.

Our flowers were beautiful purple and white calla lilies and white and lavender spray roses. My wedding dress was an elegant, strapless ivory Casablanca gown. Our favors were small champagne shaped bottles with candies and a sandal keychain. Our cake was a delicious lemon-blueberry, chocolate truffle, and mudslide flavored 3 tiered masterpiece from SugarTree Bakery. It was decorated with beautiful fresh flowers.

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

With all the stress of planning, always remember that everything will come together and no matter what happens, it will be a perfect day because you get to marry the love of your life!
